Sense of Purpose & Wellbeing Matters

nXu participants consistently report substantial growth on assessments of purpose, life satisfaction, durable skills, including self-awareness, and more.

The Efficacy of our Purpose, Durable Skills and Wellbeing Curriculum

Since inception, we have prioritized measurable student outcomes. Partnering with Transcend Education, the Search Institute, and youth purpose researcher Heather Malin, we developed a validated assessment system that complements our curriculum. Students engaging with our content consistently show measurable growth in purpose & related durable skills.

In partnership with schools and youth organizations implementing our curriculum, we collect and review student data to improve and refine our curriculum and educator programming.

Recent Evaluative Studies of nXu’s Curriculum:

Recent evaluative studies of nXu's curriculum highlight its effectiveness in fostering purpose development, and social-emotional growth among students.

  • Middle School Program Evaluation: Students showed significant growth across four key developmental areas and six social-emotional constructs — including career development, identity and future development, resilience, community building, and more.

  • High School Program Evaluation: Students experienced 3x growth in sense of purpose and 2x growth in durable skills.

nXu time has become a designated space for students to reflect on their emotions, further understand emotions, and connect with others. I can see students being vulnerable or being exposed to vulnerability which helps build empathy for others in our community

Impact on students

Students who engage in our curriculum consistently experience measurable growth related to their sense of purpose and other key durable skills.

In the 2022-23 school year, two studies evaluated the effectiveness of our curriculum at the middle & high school levels, both showing strong evidence of impact. At a public charter middle school in Texas, students who experienced the nXu curriculum reported statistically significant positive growth compared to a control group. Similarly, at a public charter high school in Massachusetts, students reported significant positive growth from pre-test to post-test.

And in an IRB study conducted during the 2021-22 school year at a public high school in New York City, students showed significant growth in emotional wellness, positive social behavior, and overall emotional wellness scores compared to the control group. Specifically, students who received nXu content experienced 3x growth in sense of purpose and 2x growth in durable skills (specifically, developmental relationships).

Impact on educators

Educators implementing our curriculum consistently report a positive and rewarding experience, noting how seamlessly the programming integrates into their teaching. They observe meaningful growth in their students, including increased engagement, greater wellbeing & resilience, and a clearer sense of purpose. The curriculum not only enriches the learning environment but also fosters a deeper connection between educators and their students, making a lasting impact in the classroom and beyond.

The program understands how to help adults connect to students authentically.
